A Leicester designer has launched her own shoe design company just
years after having suffering school bullying due to her height.
Caroline Stillman (23) has Marfans Syndrome along with her mother
Sarah and brother Sam.
The disease affects only tall people and both Sarah and Sam both
underwent Open Heart Surgery. The condition is caused by a faulty gene and common complications include a leaky and enlarged aortic valve.
Caroline has to have regular health checks, and may have to have openheart surgery in the future.
Caroline of Thorpe By Water said: “My grandfather died of Marfan
Syndrome, but at the time we did not know what it was.”
Although Caroline was bullied at school for her height, and was forced to take time out for counselling, she continued to follow her dream of becoming a successful shoe designer specialising in large sizes.
Caroline won a place at the London School of Fashion and Leicester
University achieving a degree in Footwear Design. Her business plan and designs have recently been approved by the Prince’s Trust.
She added: “I now have over 4,000 followers on Facebook, and 13,300 on Instagram, and am about to launch my new range of Large ladies shoes (size 9- 11) “
