On 2nd July ’20 our Instagram account @beyondskin with over 38k followers was hacked and our handle taken by someone else. After over eight years of hard work building a global community, we have sadly had to literally start over.
We received an email from the hackers in the early hours stating that they had taken our
account down and to respond to them within 2 hours or our account would be deleted. We
immediately reported the hack to Instagram.
We continued to reach out to them daily, with no response, so then reached out to FB live
chat via our business account. FB said they would escalate our case and get back to us within 48 hrs. Each day no response so we kept reaching out via live chat and each time the same response; your case is with our technical team we will get back to you as soon as possible.
After a month of no confirmation from either Instagram or FB as to whether our account was even retrievable we had to let it go and give up.
We wanted to share our story with other brands and small businesses as this has sadly had a huge impact our business, in already difficult times.
Please ensure you check all your security settings and turn on all two-step authentications as unfortunately you are unlikely to receive any help from either Facebook or Instagram should you have an issue, no matter how much you use their platform and they profit from you.
We have now set up a new Instagram account @beyondskinshoes and have embarked on a journey of re-growing our community, sharing uplifting and important content plus some beautiful footwear.
